Do I need an Enrolled Deed Poll for a Passport?
No. A common misconception is that you must "enroll" your Deed Poll at the Royal Courts of Justice to get a passport. This is false. HM Passport Office fully accepts standard Unenrolled Deed Polls, provided they are correctly drafted and appropriately witnessed.

How to Update Your Passport
- Obtain your Deed Poll: Complete our application, print your PDF (or wait for our postal delivery), and sign it with an independent witness.
- Apply for a Passport Renewal: You can apply online via the Gov.uk website or pick up a paper form from the Post Office. Note that you are applying for a renewal/replacement, not a first-time passport.
- Send Your Documents: You must post your old passport and your original signed Deed Poll (or a certified copy) to HM Passport Office. They will not accept standard photocopies.
- Wait for Processing: Standard processing usually takes around 3 weeks. Your new passport will arrive in your new name, and your old documents and Deed Poll will be returned to you separately.
Can I travel with a passport in my old name?
Yes, provided the name on your flight tickets exactly matches the name on your passport. However, it is highly recommended to update your passport as soon as possible after changing your name to avoid complications, especially if you have already updated your bank and driving licence.
